More Clothing. New Tailor - Part 3 of 3

You would think that after the first tailor saga I would be done with custom made clothes in Hoi An. Oh no not me. Remember my song,

I'm just a girl who cain't say 'no'

I'm in a terrible fix!

I always say 'Come on, let's shop, just when I aughta say 'Nix.'

When a person tries to sell me stuff
I know I aughta just walk away!

But as soon as I hear "for you, good deal"
I sorta wanna stay and play!

Still searching for the perfect experience I decide to give it another go. Midway through the first ordeal, our pool deck restaurant server tells me his sister has a clothing shop and that I should go. So, one afternoon after visiting the "bad tailor" we head to his sisters shop. This time it really is his sister, they look identical. I present the business card he gave me and she said since I am "brother friend, I get good deal." Oh yippee!

I see a stunning satin floor length gown on a mannequin that she tells me can be mine for only $25.00 Holy tailor, Batman, that's a steal. "How bout a skirt too" she asks. I see a beautiful silk skirt on display. My perfect experience is playing out quite nicely. Cameron wants satin pajamas made. Another good deal is offered. Two pairs for Cameron. "You come back tomorrow for try on." Hearing those words brings bad memories of our horrid experience and I try not to let my fear show.

Tomorrow turns out to be great. A few minor adjustments to my garments and we are as good as gold.

After deciding we are done with tailored made clothing I get another referral. This time from the lifeguard who has befriended the boys. He says his wife has a clothes shop and that I should go. He hands me his wife's business card with a detailed map of the shop's location. Oh what the heck, it wouldn't hurt to check out her shop too. Afterall, he has been very nice to me and the boys.

So after a day of pool games we head to town to her shop. It's the nicest one yet. I am bummed we didn't come across her place first. The boys and I look around. Cameron sees a fabric and asks to have another shirt made. Taylor sees one too and desires one more shirt as well. I now know how to get boys to enjoy shopping... have tailored made clothes for them. Mine love it, but don't expect them to actuallyadmit it.

I see another great skirt. By now we know the drill, pick style, pick fabric, take measurements and let the sewing begin.

The next day we come back to find PERFECTION! I LOVE MY SKIRT!! Cameron and Taylor's shirts are wonderfully made with great fabric too. In such a state of glee I decided to show her my "not so good" tops in hopes she can do some seamstress magic and make them wearable. I try them on, she looks appaled, then applies a stitch here and a mark there and says "no problem, come tomorrow."

Tommorow I arrive to find four tops that fit 99% as good as my original one. As good as it can be considering what she had to start with. She asks "Now you happy?" "Yes, Yes!" I ask how much to pay her. She waves me off. What, she's not going to charge me. I try again, and again. She refuses again and again. I show my gratitude with a hug and say good bye.

Now all is well in my world of custom tailor clothes from Hoi An, Vietnam.
